Birthday GIVEAWAY!

Today's my birthday. To celebrate, I thought I would do a giveaway!

You'll receive 3 SLICES -- my slender sterling silver stacking rings --
custom-made just for you in whatever size you'd like. If you'd rather have copper (or a combination), or if you'd rather have a dark patina instead of a shiny finish that's cool too -- it's all up to the lucky winner. :-)

So I guess now I have to figure out what you need to do to enter....

1. Well of course you should visit my Etsy Shop! Take a look around and leave me a comment with your favorite item and why.

For a second, third, and fourth entry, tell me...
2. what styles and types of jewelry you usually wear, and
3. what goes into your decision to purchase a particular piece, and
4. Is most of the jewelry you buy handmade? Why or why not?

I'll draw some time later this week, so hurry up and get your entries in! Check back to see who the lucky winner is!

  1. I just love the sterling silver cardinal earrings but I also love the copper she sells seashells. They're different than something you'd find mass produced and have a little fun and character to them as well. Really beautiful work!

  2. I almost always wear sterling silver jewelry although the mixed metals and copper are beckoning more to me. I love chunky rings and statement pieces. However, for daily use, I'll go with more subtle designs that I can wear repeatedly. (Except rings, I love statement rings all the time.)

  3. My decision is usually based on how often I think I'll wear the piece. The more often, the more likely it is I'll buy it.

  4. Most of my jewelry is handmade, yes. I've fallen in love with etsy over the last few years and I've been able to find lovely pieces in very unique styles at affordable prices.

  5. What a great giveaway - I really want those rings! It was hard to choose my favourite in your Etsy shop as you have so many beautiful items to choose from. I think it would be the White Oak (sterling silver) earrings - absolutely gorgeous. I tend to wear more delicate, less chunky jewellery and I love bright silver. Now I make my own jewellery I don't buy as much jewellery as I used to but I still buy rings as I haven't tried making them yet. Yes, I always try and buy handmade jewellery when possible (both my engagement and wedding rings were custom made and I love the thought that they have been made especially for me).

  7. I love the AMBER -sterling silver and amber ring- because it's simple and because I think the mixture of warm and cool colours would go with just about anything.

  8. Most of the time I don't wear jewelry, but when I do I like simple bracelets, necklaces, or rings - unless they're part of a costume, I try for elegant rather than flashy. I don't have pierced ears.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I very seldom buy jewelry for myself, so when I'm buying it I'm usually thinking about what the person I'll be giving it to would like. Price is also a consideration, as is supporting business practices I like (whether that's handmade, recycled metal, etc.).

  10. I like several items from your shop, but I think my favorite is the IRIS -sterling silver hand-pierced pendant. It is so feminine looking and it reminds me of Van Gogh's Irises :)

  11. I love your FROSTED sterlin silver earrings! One of my ears has grown shut, but I'm going to re-pierce it so I can start wearing earrings again.

  12. what styles and types of jewelry you usually wear?

I normally wear silver and some copper items. Mostly necklaces and some rings and lots of earrings. I prefer smaller, more delicate rings and necklaces but I like dangley earrings. I also like bright colored funky bangles.

  13. what goes into your decision to purchase a particular piece?

The first thing that gets me to look at the piece is the photo. If there is a good photo then I will take a closer look. The main thing I look for is uniqueness at a reasonable price. (by reasonable, I do not mean cheap... just not super expensive). I also consider the materials used to make the jewelry. I like the idea of recycling/upcycling.

  14. Is most of the jewelry you buy handmade?

Yes, because I love the variety and uniqueness available with handmade items and I like to support handmade sellers because I am one myself.

I looked in your shop and everything is so amazing! I really loved the simplicity of the Moondance necklace.

  16. Choosing a favorite for me was difficult because you make such beautiful pieces.I chose what drew me to your shop for the first time and that is the Oak earrings. I love organic and natural looking jewelry. The quality of your work looks outstanding.

It depends on my mood, sometimes I wear simple pieces like a sterling bangle and hoops for earrings and other times something busy.

I buy things I just love and can not make myself. Good quality items that are handmade.

    Have a wonderful Birthday!

  21. 1 - Well, it was hard to pick from all your AMAZING items, but I think my fave is the Synchronize pendant, because it looks Celtic, and I am an Irish girl. :)

2 - I have always been into very girly and feminine jewelry, dainty gold swirls, lots of pearls and things like that. Recently I have been more drawn to organic designs that are big and funky and I just love metalwork!

3 - I am a very frugal shopper, so in order to fork out cash on jewlery it must be unique, affordable and super awesome! If it doesn't grab me I won't buy it.

4 - I don't frequently buy jewelry, but actually make most of mine myself. I do know an amazing jewelry artist that I like to get stuff from - three cheers for handmade! :)

  26. entry 2 I always wear Stirling silver over gold--that is just a preference. Also prefer real semi precious gemstones over cut stones. Multiple bracelets, rings. I love wire wrap jewelry and steam punk styles.

  27. Extra entry 3
what goes into your decision to purchase a particular piece?
Hmm,I guess I ask myself if it is something I can wear with everything. I ponder if I resonate to the particular gemstone or if it has properties that can assist me in some way. If it has a symbol or graphic I particular like also is considered. And can it be blended with other pieces I have to make a statement.

  28. Extra entry 4
Is most of the jewelry you buy handmade? Why or why not?

I certainly prefer handmade over mass produced stuff because the artisan puts a lot of time into creating something that speaks something about who she is. I like to be kind of a walking billboard for artisan's work by talking up to friends and strangers about the jewelry I wear and who created it.

  33. I don't purchase a lot of jewelry, but when I do, quality, price and unique-ness are important to me...

  37. I think the biggest factor in buying jewelry is that it has to tug on some heart strings. And be the right price.

  38. I am not sure what is handmade and what isn't a lot of the time. I tend to buy in thrift stores and yardsales and such.

  40. So glad to have found you---I {heart} your shop!! If I have to pick just one, it would be the Sunrise pendant because it reminds me of my mom: she always pointed out the painted beauty of the skies, and taught me to appreciate the risings and settings of the day's sun.

I totally support all things handmade, especially jewelry. Most of the baubles I own are unique pieces that lean heavily toward funky yet fem. I purchase solely based on whether I love a piece because then I know I'll wear it.

Thanks, and have a very happy birthday!!

  41. I mostly wear silver jewelry and jewelry that is ultra simple.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I don't buy jewelry often, but when I do, the first thing is just if it speaks to me. I have to love it in order to buy it. Then I look at things like versatility, can I wear it with more than one outfit. Will it fit into my lifestyle, and is it affordable.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I make most of my own jewelry but I am just starting to buy more handmade jewelry from others.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Great giveaway!

I personally really like the Synchronize pendant because of the detail work. Nicely done! When buying jewelry, I only buy handmade because of the love and detail that goes into each piece rather than wearing something poured or stamped in a poorly conditioned factory anyway. I usually wear sterling, clean cut pieces. Right now I'm wearing a hand hammered Star of David ring, a filigree band of trinities, a knotted sterling band, and a row of pink sapphires thinly set in silver. Yea, a lot of sterling around here. :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Happy Birthday! My current favorite is "bask" due to the warm, warm color of the patina.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Current favorites are chunky necklaces and earrings with stones/metals that stores don't typically sell via mass production.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Depending upon price, if it's a one of a kind piece, I may not hesitate to buy it.

    ReplyDelete
  48. More and more of my jewelry IS handmade. I avoid the beaded types of pieces that craft shows typically used to sell.

  52. lol my previous captcha word was "spuncy" - just fun to say aloud.

I wear bold statement pieces for necklaces and bracelets. I am not a fan of gold, but I love silver and copper in any form (patina, oxidized, shiny, satin, etc).

    heidig@gmail.com

    ReplyDelete
  53. Unusual pieces that catch my eye are the ones that I tend to buy. I don't want to see the same necklace on a dozen other women in town, whether I paid $10 or $100. It has to be bold, and have some kind of texture.
I cannot imagine wearing a simple charm on a thin chain.

    heidig@gmail.com

    ReplyDelete
  54. I wear handmade jewelry exclusively.
I am fortunate to have very gifted friends who create marvelous pieces for me in trade for my items (usually custom dolls or artwork).
My style isnt very "commercial" - I like to wear original art pieces. I just love knowing that each piece was loved by its maker, and knowing a bit about the artist through blogs just makes it so much better.

  65. Right now I'd say price and longevity go into my decision making process when buying jewelry. I don't have a ton of extra money to spend on jewelry so when I do buy things I want to make sure they are quality and will last awhile and also are basic enough to go with just about anything in my wardrobe.

  67. So many choices at your etsy shop. Really hard to choose. I think I like the pensive penguin pendant best. I prefer the pendants with the shapes in the metal as opposed to shiny-like. My ears are not pierced so kind of eliminates the ear rings. The ripple copper cuff comes in a close second.
Thanks for doing the wonderful giveaway.

  69. LOVE the stacking rings and wear stackers all the time. Some of my favs are a set my husband got me from Etsy that would coordinate fabulously with these.

My fav piece currently in your Etsy shop is :http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=23257769 I love the red and silver, very striking.

I tend to by simple, low profile pieces since I am an artist, work at home Mom of a 5 year old and art teacher. I like to wear jewelry but it can't get in the way. I like simple silver pieces. And I nearly always buy handmade pieces now. I am always falling in love with pieces on Etsy and love when I find an affordable piece that is unique.

  70. 1. My favorite item is the TRES BOLAS -sterling silver stacking rings- because they are visually stunning yet simple. I don't like things that BLING but I like unique things, especially things that I wear. They look like a lot of care and love went into making them.

    2. I usually wear antique or antique-looking silver jewelry- all of it unique or abstract.

    3. I base my purchasing on the quality of metal and craftmanship also whether it goes with the rest of what I wear- I wear, for the most part the same jewelry EVERYDAY no matter what the occasion.

    4. Here lately most of my jewelry is hand made because it is made with more detail and more love... they are unique and I am supporting a fellow DIYer.
